Happy people's democracy
I have identified a few words that have recently either suffered a massive inflation or been otherwise completely ruined. These are the words and concepts of equality, welfare, and democracy. All of them are seemingly good values, which are now being praised as something nearly divine in existence – imagine something so noble that it is ok to sacrifice all individual rights and freedoms to defend those ideas. Indeed, democracy has become something resembling what the values depicted in the flag above used to be, having people in same exact kind of a trance.
Whereas back in the days of the cold war it would be Americans fighting against communists, and Soviet Union in exchange attempting to spread communism, the same trend seems to continue. Of course, nowadays it is just called falling under the influence of Russia, or resisting it. I understand that falling under too much influence of any superpower or ideology is obviously dangerous and should be avoided, but what gets me is that people in western societies in many cases are themselves not getting any better. Instead, they are regressing. Let me translate the modern coded language used in the west nowadays for you.
Democracy = If you are voting for someone I am, you are democratic. If not, you are a threat to democracy.
Welfare = Ultra-high taxation with manifold income transfers.
Equality = Communism.
This is exactly what lurks behind the meaning of those words nowadays. Anyone disagreeing with "experts" is a threat to our wonderful, democratic processes. Instead, it is expected that we need to uphold the high values of having vast public services available to everyone – no matter the cost and amount of corruption involved. To top it all off, we need to embrace equality, though we need to do it by making everyone's lives equally miserable, not by striving for growth and development. With this, we will all be happy – and if someone is not, then they are a threat to our beloved democracy as well.
Is anyone else seeing how twisted and perverted these concepts have become? I cannot be the only one, can I? Or is it just the downfall of quality mainstream media that is causing all of this extremist discourse to rise to the top?
