The Rise of Western Society

mountains and tree range during golden hour

In my last blog post, I mentioned having a feeling that things may in fact be taking a turn for the better. There are not many facts I can base this feeling on, unfortunately, but it is mostly just that: a feeling. Besides, even though I am unsure of whether we ever have hit the rock bottom, we have come pretty close, and speaking in a linear fashion, we have travelled this road for so many years now that it will all eventually have to end. The change will not be a quick one, obviously, just as the decline has not been, either.

But before we get too depressed, just as a quick reminder that this post is supposed to be about the good things happening around us. Let's take a look at a few of those, even if they are all based on my gut feeling only.

First, one of my favorite topics: economy. We are doing so baaaad here. Despite the stock market (and other markets, too) waking up and doing well, this by itself is hardly a sign of economic upturn. What makes me optimistic, however, is that in the short term consumer confidence ought to be going up slowly as the interest rate cuts will keep on going. In the long term, the system will obviously not be able to withstand people taking on more debt and thus having the money printers turned on once more. It will be a constant struggle between ridiculous inflation and plummeting purchasing power of traditional currencies. What makes this a good thing in the long term is that we will eventually see evolvement, a change of sorts. I have no idea what this change will look like, but the great thing is that there will be something new coming up to fix an otherwise broken system.

Second, people are struggling. Younger generations will not see pensions, and even if they do, it will not be before having reached a ridiculously high age or the pensions will be extremely low. The working class are struggling to find jobs, and many more positions will be taken over by machines in the form of AI. This struggle is good, because we are already here. The struggle is real and will not be something new looming ahead in the future. The party is over and has been for quite some time, and therefore, all this will not feel so bad in the future. In fact, now that more and more people have been handed the incentive of getting out of this mess, I am quite optimistic that new forms of means of surviving through this will be found all the more quicker.

Third, the presidential elections. Oh boy. I will not say anything of the candidates, but I will say this. Once we're done with this circus, for the next four years, people and societies will finally have more room to breathe. The anxiety around the topic will disappear and dissolve into new problems, and we as a people can learn to live with whatever is coming our way. I for one think that waiting for an impending chaos is much worse than living in one.

These are a few examples of what is going through in my head concerning "the rise" of western society. I guess they are rather oriented towards economy and finance, but hey, when in question of reasons and problems in this world, look no further than the most obvious answer. It is usually money.
